How to use this calculator

This tool uses the VOO investment context to model a user-defined contribution and growth scenario. It does not look up the fund price, expense ratio, past performance, or future returns. Enter a total-return assumption that already includes reinvested dividends, and do not add a second dividend yield.

The method

Net assumed return = (1 + total return) * (1 - fee) - 1

Enter the values in the labeled fields, check the units or selected mode, and choose Calculate. The result includes the applicable working and a breakdown or visual when useful. Change an input and calculate again to update the result.

WORKED EXAMPLE

Starting balance ($): 10000 Monthly contribution ($): 250 Assumed annual total return (%): 5 Years: 10 Assumed annual fee (%): 0

Hypothetical investment value: $54,879.74

A VOO-labeled scenario using your return assumptions, not a forecast.

Scope and limitations

Hypothetical projection only. No historical mode, live market feed, share purchases, tax effects, or guaranteed outcomes. Default numbers are examples, not verified VOO statistics. Not affiliated with Vanguard.

Common questions

Are the default return and fee actual VOO figures?

No. They are illustrative inputs. Replace them with assumptions appropriate to your own scenario.

Should I add dividend yield to total return?

No. Total return already includes dividends. Adding the yield again would double-count them.
