How to use this calculator

A monthly dividend equivalent makes different payout frequencies easier to compare, but it does not change the payment schedule. You can estimate annual dividends from an investment value and yield or from shares owned and an annual dividend per share. The per-payment value assumes equal distributions.

The method

Average monthly dividend = estimated annual dividends / 12

Enter the values in the labeled fields, check the units or selected mode, and choose Calculate. The result includes the applicable working and a breakdown or visual when useful. Change an input and calculate again to update the result.

WORKED EXAMPLE

Calculation basis: Investment value and annual yield Investment value ($): 10000 Assumed annual dividend yield (%): 4 Assumed payments per year: 4 - Quarterly

Average monthly dividend income: $33.33

An annual-income equivalent, not a promise of monthly payments.

Scope and limitations

No live yields, company schedules, ex-dividend dates, or guaranteed payments. Monthly averages do not imply monthly deposits into your account. Taxes and reinvestment are excluded.

Common questions

Does a monthly average mean I will be paid monthly?

No. A quarterly payer can have an average monthly income even though payments arrive only four times a year.

Are dividends guaranteed?

No. A company or fund can change its distributions, and a yield based on market value can change as prices change.
